What is Success?

What is success? It can seem like this allusive thing on some days. Is it the amount of money in your bank account, is it the number of degrees you have, or is it your career? Is it your social network, who you are married to, or the job you have? The last award you received, or the house on the hill or maybe the one with the white picket fence? What is success?

If you have achieved any of these things you probably know that at some point it could have been a success; but it often fades and becomes one more item that you ticked off the list. You may or may not even see the value in it anymore, or you might not even count it as an accomplishment; now it is just something you did and it does not feel like there is any point as to why you should even celebrate it. What is success?
Maybe it was just an idea … a thought a

part of youth, being young and vibrant; thinking, you can do anything. Time passed and instead of seeming like the world is your oyster, it can seem that all you see are hurdles and walls. What is
success? In fact, who even needs to dream at this point, you would just be happy with a peaceful life where you can live comfortably, address the day-to-day concerns and be at peace. Ha ha ha … the only thing about that idea is one is it success, or two is it an active way of giving up and settling for something you did not originally want for yourself? Is it a way of copping out and saying I can’t do it (that thing you dreamed) under the cover of “peaceful living”?
What is success? What if the concept is simple, what if it was as basic as achieving what you set out to do, nothing more nothing less. The ability to say “it is finished” at the end of your task. Is it me or did the room just get lighter? What if walking out your great purpose that is somewhere deep in your heart is success? The fact that you completed what you set out to do is success.

How much easier is it to see yourself as successful if you know that completing what you set out to do is the success? How much better does it set you up for your next step if you have all these successes behind you encouraging you forward… big or small they are there and they speak some softly some loudly, “you did it, you did it, you can do more, you can do more, you can do greater things”.

It is Easter weekend; Christians will be celebrating God’s death and resurrection. When Christ died, He said “It is finished”, the biggest accomplishment in the universe and eternity, it marks time, it changed history. How much better would we be to start marking our steps one success at a time knowing, it is finished.
Have an amazing Easter weekend!
