The lazy days of summer are starting! Summer often brings with it thoughts of hope and joy. There is a lot to do, people to see, places to visit. Summer can be full of hope or bring that crashing realization that we are halfway through the year. A gravity that something has passed and a rapidness to a close of the year. With all that is going on it is good to be aware of protecting your emotions and your environment. Here are some tips to protecting your emotions so you can have all the strength, energy, and focus to carry you through this year.

Be Mindful of The Situations
Be mindful of the situations and people around you. Be mindful of the situations and people who drain you. There are some people and situations that cause one to start cringing before they even take place. It is good to take inventory of what is happening in these situations. Why do you have this type of response? What is the dynamic that is causing this? Is this a situation that you should step away from, or is it a situation that demands that you take extra time to garner mental solace? Determine what is needed in order for it to be something you can move through with grace.

Retreat
I think retreating is so underrated and especially in a society that has glorified the Lone Ranger, and pulling yourself up by your own boot straps. Retreating from a situation as a conscious effort to find clarity and perspective (Not out of fear) is
important to one's garnering strength, balance and insight. Retreating for a day or two can be a great time to self-reflect and find the answers, understanding, and solace needed to make the decisions and determinations to finish what is at hand.

Find Your Quiet Time
Much like retreating, quiet time is a great time to self-reflect, gain perspective, pray and come to realizations for a set amount of time everyday whether it be for 10 minutes or 1 hour. Keep up the consistency with your quiet time and keep it going! Don’t get so busy where you don’t have time for this. Our brains and souls need it.

Boundaries
Once one has gathered the realizations and understanding needed about a situation, one now has the foundation to apply the right tools and abilities to maintain and establish boundaries. This way they can protect their mindset while still being reasonable, respectful, and fair to all involved.

Consistency
The steps one can use to cultivate protecting their mindset are also steps that can be used to strengthen one’s mindset. Consistency is so important creating good practices that help us avoid getting off track and too deep into situations that one would not want to be in.
Enjoy the process, enjoy life!
